Green Day Exceeds All Expectations – Live At Verizon Wireless 8/31/10

Alif Joe Armstrong

Tags → ,

It seemed as if the Green Day Twittyerverse was exploding between 8:30-11:15pm last night. Everyone that had a phone and two fingers was punching away furiously to friends, Facebook or Twitter about one of the best concerts of the decade.

There were nearly a dozen “Oh my God, you’ll never believe what song Green Day is playing right now!” moments.

Yes, of course this sounds like an overstatement, but it was this feeling that swept the crowd during the show and stayed with us on our drive home. You don’t have to believe me, just search Twitter and you’ll see what I mean. Every single concert goer had that after-sex glow as they made the long walk out of Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Among the people going nuts was tennis star Serena Williams. She was Tweeting all night, basically narrating the entire show for her friends around the globe. Apparently, she’s a huge rock fan. Who knew?

It all started when dirty, beer drinking bunny hobbled on stage. As if he’d just woke from a night in a dumpster, he wobbled around the stage interacting with the audience. It was almost like one of the roadies found an old, thrashed bunny suit and said, “Hey, I’m gonna go out on stage with this on…” And the band said, “Sure, go nuts.”

From the moment that Green Day hit the stage, you could tell Billie Joe was energized and this wasn’t going to be any ordinary show. The giant LCD backdrop, the balls of fire, and perfectly choreographed explosions added the right elements to every song without ever upstaging the band.

About a third way through the show, Billie started bringing fans up on stage. Yes, he’s done this a million times, but for some reason, this time seemed a little more special, and a whole lot funnier. He looked down at security and said, “I’m Billy Joe f**cking Armstrong, I’ll do anything I want!” Clearly, security believed him.
An Asian guy, probably in his early 40s, was called out from the pit. When he finally made it through the pit and up to Billie Joe, he stood next to him, almost dumbfounded, and grabbed the mic.

“This is Billie f’ing Joe! (insert long pause) Billie f’ing Joe!” He’d step back a few feet then as if we didn’t hear it the first time, he repeated, “This is Billie Joe Armstrong!” The crowd erupted as expected. Billie grabbed the mic and graciously motioned to this awe-struck man that the only way to get off stage was to dive back into the crowd. And that’s just what he did. He grabbed his shades from neck of his shirt, slid them on his face and went running right off the edge of the stage. This was just the beginning.

Green Day rock solid at Manfield, MA Comcast Center

Alif Joe Armstrong

MANSFIELD - Original '90s punk rockers Green Day showed the years haven't aged them as they took the stage at the Comcast Center Monday night for their last New England stop.

The band, lead by vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, blasted its way further into the hearts of fans with fire, jumps and fireworks, calling people on stage randomly throughout the night and just having a great time with the show.

From the start, Green Day worked the crowd into an uproar just by launching into the song "21st Century Breakdown," and Armstrong screamed at fans to raise their hands. The fans could not but help to obey the masters of punk and rock.
"We're going to party all night New England!" Armstrong shouted.
Mixed in with Green Day's chant of "hey oh", Armstrong called out to Massachusetts and New England repeatedly. The band stuck to mostly its later albums, with songs from the albums "21st Century Breakdown," and "American Idiot."

"Viva la Gloria!" was a hit, which started off with Armstrong showing his versatility as a singer and doing a ballad. Throughout the concert, Armstrong showed he was more than a punk rocker; he knows his stuff. He picked up the saxophone for a song, as well as a harmonica.
"All right New England, let's start a war! Viva la revolution!" Armstrong banged on his guitar, and then all of Green Day followed with "Holiday."

Green Day Plays The Comcast In Hartford

Alif Joe Armstrong

Green Day has come a long way from "Dookie," tackling increasingly serious subject matter as it pushed into its second decade with acclaimed albums "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown."

As they engaged the crowd in a massive mud fight at the Woodstock 25th anniversary festival in 1994, who in their right mind would have guessed that the Bay area pop punks would one day serve as the inspiration for a Broadway musical?

That doesn't mean that the band has abandoned its roots. On its summer tour, Green Day is demonstrating remarkable balance between its sense of humor and its sense of purpose, ripping through marathon sets that touch on some of its earliest material.

How does "Longview" hold up next to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"? Find out when the band returns to Hartford for a show at the Comcast Theatre tonight. California alt-rock vets AFI open the 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $49.50 to $85 for reserved seats, or $35 for the lawn. Information: 860- 548-7370 or livenation.com.

A Great Night with Green Day at Alpharetta concert

You realize how long Green Day has been around (and how many hits they’ve scored) when you ogle their audience Monday night at the Verizon-Wireless-Amphitheatre-at-Encore-Park in Alpharetta. and see hundreds of Moms and Dads in their 30s, 40s and 50s bringing their children — and even grandchildren — to see the venerable punk rock band.

Is Green Day punk? How can a punk band sell 15 million copies of its major label debut? What punk band writes an opera that gets produced on Broadway?

And if Green Day is punk, what were all these little kids doing out on a school night, shoving their fists in the air while Mom and Dad smiled on? Shouldn’t they be cheering Justin Bieber over in Gwinnett?

Maybe not.  It’s all rock and roll, very catchy, inflammatory rock and roll, that can seem like a Molotov cocktail one minute and a high school graduation ceremony the next.

Green Day rocked At Lollapalooza

In about 10:00Am WIB (Time in Indonesia) Lollapalooza's website already streaming four songs from Green Day's performance in Chicago. So click here to go to Lollapalooza website to start watching. The site is showing songs from Erykah Badu's performance but Green Day will be on after she is done.

Song1: When I Come Around
Song 2: Brain Stew
Song 3: 21 Guns
Song 4: Jesus of Suburbia

ConsequenceofSound.net has posted their review of Lollapalooza raving on about the bands action packed two hour set full of fireworks, confetti, and stage divers.

'Armstrong intended to do more than just rile up the crowd, he wanted to turn the Windy City into a fiery hellstorm. Take for example, the event's 10 p.m. curfew, which he sneered at, jovially declaring, "I say you kiss my white fucking ass, and we'll play how long we want." It should be noted that he stuck true to his words.'

Shortly after the show had come to a close Billie posted the following message on the band's twitter.

'Lollapalooza was amazing! Best festival in america! Chicago was perfect location! Highlight-screwing up lyrics for she's a rebel! Oops.RnL'
Here one video from Green day live at Lollapalooza Festival When I'm Come Around :

Green Day Rocks For All Ages At Darien

http://www.buffalonews.com/incoming/article94619.ece/BINARY/w620/CONCERT_GREEN+DAY.jpg

DARIEN — So just who is this band that has stolen the hearts of your children? Why is it OK to take your children to see them while they swear a blue streak and act out a pantomime of horny male adolescence to the tune of three-or four-chord punk rock? And just why were you there with your 8-year-old, mister? Just what exactly is your problem?

You probably don’t really have a problem, actually. Maybe you just love rock ’n’ roll, and hoped to pass that love on to your kids, the occasional F-bomb be damned. If so, the Green Day show at Darien Lake Thursday night was the place for you.

Before a crowd that appeared to be full, but possibly not, to capacity, the scruffy California punk trio turned “concept album” supergroup reminded the kids why they’d fallen in love with it, and the adults why they’d been suckers for those early garage-punk platters that managed to make their way to Buffalo well before Green Day was “Green Day.”
