American Idiot and Dookie entered the list of 99 Best Album Cover
Recently, Inspiredology.com made a list of what they thought were the "99 Best Designed Album Covers". Green Day made the list twice with American Idiot and Dookie.'American Idiot' celebrates its 6th anniversary
American Idiot is the seventh studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day. It was released on September 21, 2004 through Reprise Record and produced by longterm collaborator Rob Cavallo. In mid-2003, the band began recording songs for an album titled Cigarettes and Valentine.
However, the master tracks were lost and the band decided to start over rather than re-record Cigarettes and Valentines. They decided to produce a "Rock Opera", inspired by the work of The Who and numerous musicals.
It follows the life of "Jesus of Suburbia", a sort of anti-hero created by Billie Joe Armstrong Following early recording at Oakland California's Studio 880, the band finished the album in Los Angeles.
The album achieved popularity worldwide, charting in 26 countries and reaching number one in nineteen of them, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Since its release, American Idiot has sold over 15 million copies worldwide and over five million copies in the US including 267,000 in its opening week.
The album won numerous awards including a Grammy for Best Rock Album, and received acclaim by critics.
American Idiot peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. It achieved five times platinum status in the United States, eight times platinum status in Canada and six times platinum status in the United Kingdom.
Five singles were released in support of the album, all of which charted on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" topped both the Mainstream and the Modern Rock charts. Its music video received heavy airplay on music television.
In 2005, American Idiot won a Grammy for Best Rock Album and was nominated in four other categories including Album Of The Year. The album helped Green Day win seven of the eight awards they were nominated for at the 2005 Mtv Video Music Award the "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" video won six of those awards. A year later, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" won a Grammy for Record Of TheYear.
Most recently the American Idiot album has been turned into a Broadway musical that has been playing strong now for half a year.

American Idiot listed in "most controversial" artwork
MSN Music recently listed Green Day on two separate lists - the first was including American Idiot on their list of "most controversial album covers". 'Green Day's cover image of a bleeding heart/grenade certainly provokes a reaction. Not surprisingly, the tracks on American Idiot are much more political than their previous efforts.'

Green Day was also included on MSN Music's list of "Top 50 maddest moments in music", at number 34 "Green Day wakes fan from coma".
'Corey regained consciousness [...] after being played Green Day's American Idiot by his mother. A spokesperson for the band said, "The boys are incredibly pleased that one of their tracks has brought Corey out of his coma. They hope he continues with his recovery and makes a full return to health."'

Rare Green Day photos up for charity auction
The Grammy Awards have put up three Green Day photos for auction on ebay.com for users to bid on with all the proceeds from the auction to go to the MusiCares Foundation.The three photos that have been put up for auction are as follows:

Bidding for the items end on August 15th. All of the items are a little pricey, but remember that the money made off of them will be going to a good cause.
